Another Win For The Under 11s!

WINTERBOURNE  0  BRISTOL CENTRAL  1

Half Time  0 - 1

This was the long-awaited return match against the only team to beat Bristol Central

in the League this season. On a bright sunny morning, we looked forward to a great

match...and we were not disappointed.

Bristol Central started brightly with good running and passing movements. Khari

quickly made his presence felt and fired in several good shots from distance. The

Winterbourne Goalkeeper was kept busy and made a number of good saves. One

shot beat him but went whizzing just past the post. Then Winterbourne hit back with

some strong attacks which nearly resulted in a goal. But our team continued to play well

using the whole width of the pitch. Taijon, Khari and Sahr mounted a strong attack on the

left and the ball went across the penalty area to Teon, who has the happy knack of

finding space. Without hesitation, he fired home with a hard shot from about 12 yards

for his 3rd goal in just 9 matches ! Well done TEON for a clean, clinical finish. Half time

came and we were 1 - 0 up.

I was glad that we were not just content to hold on to our one goal advantage but took

the game to Winterbourne in the second half. It was a keenly contested second half but

gradually the sheer quality of the Bristol Central team gave us the edge. It always looked

more likely that we would score a second goal than Winterbourne would equalise. But our

full backs were tested sometimes and they came through the test really well. Jacob put in

an excellent performance and got MOTM. One of the Winterbourne players got so

annoyed that he lashed out with a kick at him. To be fair, the Winterbourne Manager did

apologise to Jacob !

By now, we were playing some brilliant football. I was pleased to see Luca having his best

match for some time. He produced some clever little flicks with the outside of his foot, ran

and passed intelligently and generally got involved much more in the game. And at one

point, he rode two tackles to come away with the ball. " Way to Go, Luca". Well done !

Ray was also impressive when he moved to the Right side of Midfield. Again, cutting in

and spreading the play across field. And for the second match running, he forced the

'Keeper into a great save with a hard shot. As the ball rebounded off the 'Keeper, Nabil

latched on to it and scored. For some reason, the goal was disallowed (for Offside ? ).

For most of the second half, Winterbourne concentrated on playing 'through' balls past our

back line and Lewis was alert enough to come and gather them. Once he was forced to

clear with his foot. There was a minor drama near the end when a through ball went to a

Winterbourne player in an Offside position but he was flagged immediately by the Linesman

and the Referee blew straight  away.

It's a good job that our team have found their best form again at this stage in the Season.

This was an outstanding TEAM performance with some of the best link - up play seen so

far this season. If they play like this then they have nothing to fear in their last 6 matches.

Bristol Central ....... you are so fresh !
