DEERSWOOD ABBOTS  0  BRISTOL CENTRAL  12

April 28th 2014

An early morning shower had quickened the pitch and gave a perfect working surface to what became an (almost) perfect performance by Bristol Central !  I don't know if the coaches have been giving them extra shooting practice but each goal was the result of well - struck shots, usually after well worked out passing movements. From the moment Khari received the ball, he displayed the blistering pace and closeball control which has terrified many defences this season and scored 5 goals in the first half. He was ably assisted by Luca who linked up well and put in a perfect lay - off which Khari, travelling at the speed of light, collected without pausing on his fine run, Taijon on the other wing played well when he got the ball but this was really KHARI's day. Shots from distance, running past the defence and scoring from close range plus an inswinging corner which the 'Keeper could only help into his own net as it was hit so hard. Well done Khari.

Half time  0 - 5.

With the game more or less won, the Coaches made a number of changes at half time. The back line of Teon, Caleb and Lemar, who had all played very well in the first half, were replaced by Jonathan, Jacob and Khari. The Central midfield partnership of Jonathan and Morgan who along with Teon had given such great service to Khari were replaced by Sahr and Ray, and Andrei, Teon and Nabil replaced Khari , Luca and Taijon up front. If Deerswood imagined they were in for an easier second half, then they were soon proved wrong ! Confidence ran through the whole team and they played with freedom, lack of hesitation and real quality. SAHR scored within 2 minutes of the restart. Teon's shot was only partly saved by their 'Keeper and ANDREI drove the ball home for no.7. A welcomed return to the team for Andrei who had been away, but seemed like he never left! Then RAY got into the act by scoring the next goal and then ANDREI scored his second. A great pass went out to Andrei on the wing and he ran straight towards goal before hitting a great shot across the 'Keeper and into the net. The 10th goal... ANDREI received another good pass and repeated his run towards goal. This time he checked and went past the defender before accurately hitting a controlled shot, again across the 'Keeper. RAY then went on to score another goal, before JONATHAN scored the last one after Jacob's free - kick rebounded off the wall.

Result 0 - 12.

It has to be said that Deerswood are nearer the bottom of the table than the top. To their credit, they still played some attacking football and pushed forward in search of a goal themselves. Bristol Central played the game from start to finish, creating a lot of width and lengh, allways looking for the pass forward to attack quick and direct. Although I have concentrated on describing the goals, I cannot fail to praise our magnificent defenders. This is the backbone of the team and their strength, skill and willingness to pass out of defence enables the more attacking players to get their chances. Lewis, our Goalkeeper, kept out a low hard shot in the first half and did a couple of acrobatic saves to deny Deerswood a goal in the second half. Well done, Lewis !

Today, I was impressed by players running into space, receiving excellent passes and looking up before linking up with their team mates. Pace, power, skilful passing and clinical finishing made for a brilliant performance. Boys, you are all stars ! Keep up the good work for your last match against Mangotsfield. Coaches, whatever you are doing, it's working !

 Scorers - Khari 5, Ray 2, Andrei 3, Sahr 1, Jonathan 1
